 2016 Preview

A.L. Johnson finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. With their 2-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region four, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. A.L. Johnson's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Brantley by a score of 35-12.

A.L. Johnson was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.2 points a game.

Since 2010, A.L. Johnson has gone a combined 29-33. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, A.L. Johnson has managed to compile a record of 127-135. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 1A and 210th in the AHSAA.

The Eagles are led by head coach Johnny Ford who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-13 over the past two seasons at A.L. Johnson. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ford.

Coach Ford's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 8-13 (38.1%).

The A.L. Johnson Eagles will play in Class 1A region one during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 1A but move from region four over to region one.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. A.L. Johnson simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 56 students, the Eagles are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful.

The Eagles open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, August 19 at A.L. Johnson Stadium. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region four. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Autaugaville by a score of 30-0.

A.L. Johnson and R.C. Hatch have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 12-8-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2015 with R.C. Hatch winning by a score of 20-12.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Hamilton shutout an amazing 14 consecutive opponents from 1928-1930. A streak that will never be matched in modern football.
